Well, it is hard to believe that the school year is over.

We had a wonderful time teaching your children this year and we enjoyed watching

your child grow and learn over the year.

We have made many wonderful memories and will cherish the times we spent

with your child forever.

Pk Bees had another great day this outdoor week. Today we met one last time with our buddies and celebrated with popcicles. We also read the story Gotta Go Gotta Go, a story about one caterpillar's journey to Mexico, before releasing our own. Bob and Ben flew away to enjoy the sun and were later spotted dancing in the Science Garden. Fast flew away slowly after enjoying one more sip from a fresh orange slice Mrs. Crain was holding. Enjoy the pictures and the long weekend!

We searched for things in nature to put on Nature Print Paper!

We first read a book about trees and the parts of trees...

Then we placed our items on the Sun Print Paper and let the sun

shine on our objects for 2 minutes.

After that, we had to soak our paper in water for 1 minute.

It was fun to see how the sun bleached the paper and our objects

were "stamped" on the paper!

We spent an hour outside with our 2nd grade buddies today! We went on a scavenger hunt and

looked for things that began with each letter of the alphabet!

We even got to keep the books, so if we didn't finish... we could continue

to work on them over the summer!

This will be our last week for Book-In-A-Bag! The children have all enjoyed reading with us and we have really enjoyed watching your child grow and enjoy receiving their book every week!

Next week will be outdoor week. Your child may dress-down the entire week! Please note, we will be spending a lot more time outside, so please send your child in clothes that can get dirty. Boots are always a good thing as well. After outdoor week, we will send home your child's boots and snow pants (extended day children).

Conferences are this Thursday and Friday. Please let us know ASAP if you have not signed up yet. You will not be getting your child's progress report at this conference. It will be a shorter conference that will wrap up the year. Can you believe it is over already?! WOW!

Butterfly Book Activity...

We read Where Butterflies Grow and compared it to The Very Hungry Caterpillar!

We then filled in the boxes of a chart to compare the different things that happened

in both books.

Some questions were only in one book, Where Butterflies Grow, and some were

only in The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and some were in both books!

We marked the the boxes with caterpillar stickers!

The kids did great comparing both books!

Our new babies have arrived! We have 3 caterpillars names: Fast, Ben and Bob!

We are very excited to watch them grow and change into their chrysalis and then

become beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies!

Everyday, we are going to graph if the 3 caterpillars are

a caterpillar

turned into their chrysalis

a butterfly.

We will color code our graph so we know when they change!

It will be very exciting to watch them change and grow up right before our eyes!

Today our Star of the Week was also our Busy Bee...Miss Lia. She shared some great pictures. Did you know that her favorite place to visit is the zoo and she loves horses? Great presentation, Lia!

We sounded out the words together and picked what words began with the /ch/ sound and

Symmetry

We first introduced the idea of symmetry.

A teacher would put a sticker on the butterfly...

Then each PreK B student got to come up and place the same sticker on the

butterfly to make it symmetrical.

We also introduced the idea of using straws to make an imaginary line

down the middle of an object to see if the object was symmetrical.

We broke into groups and we searched our room for symmetrical objects.

We then shared these objects with the rest of the group.

PK students have been working with vocabulary related to the life cycle of a butterfly in Spanish as well and have recently read La Oruga Muy Hambrienta, the Hungry Caterpillar. In the book, each phase of the butterfly was introduced as well as fruit and other food vocabulary. Today students participated in an activity on the SmartBoard where they had to listen to how each food was described using its color and them paint it that color by touching the board. We also watched a short video of Pocoyo and La Mariposa. Pocoyo is a great resource for students to watch and hear authentic Spanish in an age appropriate / language appropriate enjoyable cartoon. A link has been posted on the blog for you to check out.

Butterfly Eggs

Today PK B learned about different types of butterfly eggs. We watched a quick power point showing us pictures of four different butterfly eggs and a video showing one caterpillar emerging from its egg. We then completed a project using gumdrops, lemon drops, beans and honeycombs to show each egg's shape and color. We then hung these projects on our butterfly tree on our classroom window.

We cut out a 'mysterious' shape on our paper and when we unfolded it,

we had an X!

This is to help us remember our sound of the week. We reminded the kids that we are

looking for the /x/ sound... so xylophone does not fit into our sound box this week

It actually makes the /z/ sound not the /x/ sound!

We also mentioned that it will be very hard to find /x/ words, so the children

could bring in items that end with the /x/ sound!

From now until the end of the school year, we will be practicing writing our names

with both upper case and lower cases letters. We will be sending home practice sheets with

everyone so that we can also practice at home!

We completed our number writing books before Spring Break, so now we will

be practicing writing our numbers one day during our week for seatwork. This

is also another great thing to practice at home.

It was fun to have a rabbit in our classroom for the day!

We were all very excited to first see Milkweed!

He was very cuddly and soft!

There have been some questions about Rocket Day this week. We did not send out a letter because we are not doing the same Rocket-Project we have done in the past. We will be doing something different in the classroom this week. If you have already saved supplies for the project, we will talk to the class about bringing those supplies in... but the project itself will take place in the classroom to wrap up the unit on Space.

For the next 10 music classes- we will be studying "Music for Little Mozarts." This is an excellent

study of basic musical concepts-starring Mozart Mouse and Beethoven Bear. There will be a coloring page come home for them to keep to let you know what we've studied that day. I'm excited to present this to them and hope they will share with you what we learn.
